Default How to use the Group Policy Editor to change default systems

Here is how u could change your default group policy.

If you do not like some of the default settings of Windows XP, you can change these settings by using the
"Group Policy Editor" : Select from the Start-menu "Run" and enter : GPEDIT.MSC :
    and make ur own changes.

By default, Windows XP is configured (= enabled) to allow blank password ( = no password)
only for logon via the console (= keyboard, mouse and screen), requiring passwords to be
defined for accessing shared resources (=disks/folders) on this system via the network.

    Thank u all

    Enable Hibernation

When you click Start, Shut Down, you usually have 3 options: Shut Down, Restart, or Log off the current user. With this simple tip, you can add another option: hibernation. Hibernation is a process whereby Windows XP saves it's current state to the hard drive, then shuts the computer off. When you power up out of hibernation, Windows XP will restore itself to the state that it was in before - even any applications you may have had open. To add this option, open Control Panel from the Start Menu. Click Performance & Maintenance, then click the Power Options icon. On the Hibernate tab, check (click) the box next to Enable Hibernation. Now when you click Start -> Shutdown, you will have hibernation as an option, too.

Turn Off The XP Welcome Screen
By default when you start up Windows XP you will receive the "Welcome Screen". Each account then has an image next to the name etc...

If you have ever used a PC with Windows 2000 Professional then you will have used the "Logon Screen"

This same screen is an option to users of Windows XP. Here the user types in both the account name and password into a small dialog box.

I personally prefer the "Log On" screen - (NB - If you are using Windows XP Professional on a "domain" based network then the "Welcome Screen" is not an option for you to use...)

If you wish to turn off the "Welcome Screen"

    1) Start > Control Panel > User Accounts

    2) Select "Change the way users log on or off"

    3) Uncheck the "Welcome Screen" option

    4) Click "Apply Options"

    5) The settings will take effect when you log off.

The "Log On" option also changes the way "Ctrl Alt Del" works...

Under the "Welcome Screen" option you are taken into the "Task Manager" dialog box.

Under the "Log On Screen" you are given the Windows Security dialog box, which gives you far more options!

The "Log On Screen" also renames "Turn Off Computer" on the Start menu to "Shut Down".

The other main feature you get is the ability to log on to ANY user account, whereas under the "Welcome Screen" you can NOT access hidden users.

So, as you can see there are benefits to using the "Log On Screen" over the "Welcome Screen" option.

    Change XP Boot Screen
If you would like to change your boot up screen follow the directions below. These instructions assume that you have a place to download the boot screen from the net. If you would like to download a boot screen, visit http://www.themexp.org

    1. Backup (copy) the file %windir%\system32\ntoskrnl.exe (most likely C:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe - the boot screen)
    2. Download the .zip to your computer (important: make sure to get the right version, XP or XP SP1)
    3. Extract ntoskrnl.exe to a directory other than %windir%\system32 (most likely C:\windows\system32)
    4. Reboot your computer into Safe Mode (hit F8 before the boot screen) or into true DOS (from a boot disk)
    5. Overwrite the file %windir%\system32\ntoskrnl.exe (which should have been backed up) with the extracted exe
    6. Reboot your computer as you normally would

    CD ROM Stops AutoPlaying...

...and the AutoPlay Tab has disappeared in My Computer, Devices With Removable Storage, Right Click on CDROM, Properties.

    Solution:
The service: "Shell Hardware Detection" has been set to Manual or Disabled. Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Return this service to "Automatic".
