There are films, which make fan following for actors and there are films which try to satisfy fans so to sell tickets in theatre. Film Loud Speaker comes in the first category.

After a lot of 'child play' in his recent movies, Mammootty is back where everyone wanted him to be.
Mammootty’s less educated character have never failed to attract audience.

Mike (Mammootty) arrives in city as a kidney donor to an aged wealthy man, Mr. Menon. As the operation date is not fixed he stays in a posh flat with Menon. Mike is a pure hearted villager who talks aloud and is happy. He carries an old battery operated radio always. He is much found of his deceased father and talks about the adventures of his father.

The film is about the residents in flat, their budding relation with Mike, and about Menon’s Life.
Loud Speaker is such a beautiful movie that viewers get sucked into. The story has innocence and humanity that makes the film good.

Gracy Singh famous for her role in Lagaan is beautiful and maintains a natural relationship with Mike (Mammootty).
After years Harisree Asokan is back with a refreshing comedy as Christian Priest.

The film is nicely made though the director couldn’t patch up some scenes comfortably. The continuity in comedy part handled by Jagathy has not been maintained well. Suraj is ok, but has little freshness to offer.

Yester year song ‘Alliyambal Kadavil…’ is used beautifully in this film.




Mammootty and Jayaraj are able to convey emotion to the viewers. Jayaraj who is a minimalist in many films has used the optimum amount of resources to bring screen life to this heart warming story which flows as a river. Jayaraj is also the script writer of this film.

The first half of the film doesn’t promises much but it’s the second half which scores. Most part of film takes place inside a flat.

Loud Speaker can be considered one of the best films from this National award winner director. Loud Speaker is a film every Malayali should watch. This is a film with real characters and real emotions.


Performances

Mammootty gives a mesmerising presence as ‘Mike’ Philippose, a character that stands in contrast to the many meaningless ones he had done recently. Sashikumar, well known media person and the founder chairman of Asianet, who has also directed a movie (’Kaya Tharan’) does a good job of the character of Menon. Jeyaraj has this penchant of making actors of non-actors. Gracy Singh as Annie, the nurse who looks after Menon is good. It’s just that the role could have been done by any other actress too. So, what’s the point in brining in Gracy Singh? Maybe for a change. And a good change it is. She is good too. The others all suit their roles perfectly well.

Technical aspects

Cinematography by Gunashekhar and editing by Vijai Shankar suits the mood of the film. Art-work by Prashanth Madhav is excellent too.

Music

Of the songs, by the Anil Panachooran team, a couple of them may not seem outstanding, but the inclusion of the evergreen ‘Alliyambal…’ is nothing but fabulous. The background score is good.

Script

Jeyaraj has done a neat job of the screenplay and kudos to Jeyaraj for not working out a romantic angle. That’s worth noting.

Direction

‘ജയരാജിന് എന്തുപറ്റി’ എന്നത് ഏറെക്കാലമായി മനസിനെ അലട്ടുന്ന ചോദ്യമാണ്. ക്ലാസിക് ടച്ചുള്ള സിനിമകളിലൂടെ മലയാളിയെ വിസ്മയിപ്പിച്ച ഈ ഭരതശിഷ്യന്* അടുത്തിടെയായി പടച്ചുവിടുന്ന ചവറുകള്* അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്*റെ പഴയ ‘ഇഷ്ടക്കാരെ’ വിഷമിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു. അശ്വാരൂഡനും റെയ്ന്** റെയ്നും ഒക്കെ കണ്ടവര്* ജയരാജില്* നിന്ന് ഇനിയൊരു നല്ല സിനിമ പിറക്കില്ലെന്ന് ഉറപ്പിച്ചു. ആനന്ദഭൈരവി അല്**പം പ്രതീക്ഷ നല്*കി. പക്ഷേ, ദേശാടനത്തിന്*റെ തനിമ പകരാന്* ആനന്ദഭൈരവിക്ക് ആയില്ല.

അതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ, ‘ലൌഡ് സ്പീക്കര്*’ എന്ന പുതിയ സിനിമയുമായി ജയരാജ് എത്തിയപ്പോള്* പഴയ ആവേശമൊന്നും പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചില്ല. അഭിപ്രായമൊക്കെ അറിഞ്ഞ ശേഷം ഈവനിംഗ് ഷോയ്ക്ക് പോകാമെന്ന് കരുതി. പലരെയും വിളിച്ച് പടം എങ്ങനെയുണ്ടെന്ന് അന്വേഷിച്ചു. ‘സിനിമാഭ്രാന്ത’ന്**മാരുടെ ഗാംഗിലെ ആരും തന്നെ പടം കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല. ശരി, അഭിപ്രായങ്ങള്* വന്നു തുടങ്ങുന്നതു വരെ കാക്കണ്ട, പൊയ്ക്കളയാമെന്നു തീരുമാനിച്ചു. ആ തീരുമാനമെടുക്കാന്* തോന്നിപ്പിച്ച ശക്തിക്ക് നന്ദി!

ദേശീയ അവാര്*ഡുകള്* മലയാളത്തിന് സമ്മാനിച്ച അനുഗ്രഹീതനായ സംവിധായകന്* ജയരാജ് പഴയ ഫോമിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചെത്തിയ സിനിമയാണ് ‘ലൌഡ് സ്പീക്കര്*’. അടുത്തകാലത്ത് മലയാളത്തിലുണ്ടായ ഒരു ‘ഒന്നാന്തരം സിനിമ’. മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെ ഗംഭീര പ്രകടനം. മുഹൂര്*ത്തങ്ങളുടെ കരുത്തും അഭിനയകുലപതിയുടെ പെര്*ഫോമന്*സും കണ്ട് തരിച്ചിരുന്നുപോയ നിമിഷങ്ങള്* ധാരാളം.

തികച്ചും ഗ്രാമീണനായ ‘മൈക്ക്’ എന്ന കഥാപാത്രത്തെയാണ് മമ്മൂട്ടി ഈ ചിത്രത്തില്* അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. ശശികുമാര്* അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്ന മേനോന്* എന്ന കഥാപാത്രത്തിന് വൃക്ക ദാനം ചെയ്യാനായാണ് മൈക്ക് നഗരത്തിലേക്ക് എത്തുന്നത്. വൃക്ക നല്*കേണ്ട ദിവസം തീരുമാനിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. അതിനാല്* മേനോനൊപ്പം ആ ഫ്ലാറ്റില്* മൈക്ക് താമസമാക്കുന്നു. തുടര്*ന്നുണ്ടാകുന്ന സംഭവങ്ങളാണ് ‘ലൌഡ് സ്പീക്കര്*’ എന്ന സിനിമ.

നേര്*ത്ത തമാശകളും ലാളിത്യമുള്ള മുഹൂര്*ത്തങ്ങളും നിറഞ്ഞതാണ് ചിത്രത്തിന്*റെ ആദ്യ പകുതി. മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെ പുതിയ രീതിയിലുള്ള വേഷവും രൂപവും ഭാവവുമൊക്കെ അംഗീകരിക്കാന്* അല്**പം സമയം വേണ്ടി വരുമെങ്കിലും പിന്നീട് നമ്മുടെ കൂട്ടുകാരനായി മാറുകയാണ് മൈക്ക്. അയാളുടെ ചെറിയ തമാശകള്*ക്കു പോലും പ്രേക്ഷകര്* ചിരിക്കുന്നു. അയാളുടെ കണ്ണു നിറയുമ്പോള്* തിയേറ്റര്* നിശബ്ദമാകുന്നു. തമാശകള്*ക്ക് മാറ്റുകൂട്ടാന്* ജഗതി അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്ന കഥാപാത്രവുമുണ്ട്.
മമ്മൂട്ടിക്കും ശശികുമാറിനുമൊപ്പം ഈ സിനിമയിലെ മറ്റൊരു പ്രധാന അഭിനേതാവ് ഒരു റേഡിയോയാണ്. മൈക്ക് എപ്പോഴും കൊണ്ടുനടക്കുന്ന, ബാറ്ററിയില്* പ്രവര്*ത്തിക്കുന്ന ആ റേഡിയോ ഒരു കഥാപാത്രം തന്നെയായി മാറുന്നു. തന്*റെ അച്ഛന്*റെ വീരസാഹസികതകള്* വിവരിക്കുന്ന മൈക്കിന്*റെ ഭാവചലനങ്ങള്* ആരെയും വശീകരിക്കും. അയാളുടെ ഉച്ചത്തിലുള്ള സംസാരശൈലി മമ്മൂട്ടി നന്നായി ഉള്*ക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

രണ്ടാം പകുതിയാണ് ലൌഡ് സ്പീക്കറിന്*റെ ആത്മാവ്. ഹൃദയസ്പര്*ശിയായ, കണ്ണില്* ഈര്*പ്പം പൊടിക്കുന്ന രംഗങ്ങള്*. നല്ല പാട്ടുകള്*. ബിജിബാല്* ഈണം നല്*കിയ എല്ലാ ഗാനങ്ങളും മനോഹരമാണ്. മമ്മൂട്ടി ഗംഭീരമാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്ന ആ കരോള്* ഗാനം തിയേറ്റര്* വിട്ടിറങ്ങിയാലും മനസില്* നിന്നു മാറില്ല. ‘അല്ലിയാമ്പല്* കടവില്*’ എന്ന പഴയ ഗാനത്തിന്*റെ മനോഹരമായ പുനഃസൃഷ്ടിയും പ്രേക്ഷകനില്* ഗൃഹാതുരത ഉണര്*ത്തുന്നു.

ചിത്രത്തിന്*റെ കൂടുതല്* ഭാഗവും ഒരു ഫ്ലാറ്റിനുള്ളിലാണ് നടക്കുന്നത്. മേനോനും മൈക്കും തമ്മിലുള്ള ഹൃദയബന്ധത്തിലൂടെയാണ് കഥ പറയുന്നത്. ഒരു ഗ്രാമീണന്*റെ ഉള്ളിലെ നന്**മയും വേദനകളും മനസില്* തൊടുന്ന രീതിയില്* പകര്*ത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ജയരാജിനെപ്പോലെ തന്നെ മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെയും തിരിച്ചുവരവാണ് ഈ സിനിമ. കോമാളിക്കഥകളില്* നിന്നും കഥാ*പാത്രങ്ങളില്* നിന്നുമുള്ള ശാപമോക്ഷം. മമ്മൂട്ടി ഒരു നടന്* എന്ന നിലയില്* നൂറുശതമാനം നീതി പുലര്*ത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. അമരം, വാത്സല്യം തുടങ്ങിയ സിനിമകളിലെ മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെ പ്രകടനത്തെ ഓര്*മ്മിപ്പിക്കുന്നു ലൌഡ് സ്പീക്കര്*. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്*റെ സംസാരശൈലിയും മോഡുലേഷനും ഗംഭീരം.

സരസവും രസകരവും നോവുണര്*ത്തുന്നതുമായ ഒരു കഥാപാത്രത്തെയാണ് ശശികുമാറിന് ലഭിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്*റെ അഭിനയവും കഥയോടു ചേര്*ന്നു നില്*ക്കുന്നു. മമ്മൂട്ടിയും ശശികുമാറും തമ്മിലുള്ള കെമിസ്ട്രി പ്രേക്ഷകരെ കീഴടക്കുക തന്നെ ചെയ്യും. നായികയായി വരുന്ന ഗ്രേസി സിംഗും കഥാപാത്രത്തോടു നീതിപുലര്*ത്തി. ലഗാനില്* നമ്മള്* കണ്ട നായികയേയല്ല അവര്* ഈ ചിത്രത്തില്*. ഹരിശ്രീ അശോകന്*റെ ക്രിസ്ത്യന്* പാതിരിയും നല്ല കഥാപാത്രമാണ്. സുരാജ് വെഞ്ഞാറമ്മൂടും ചിരിയുണര്*ത്തുന്നു.

ജയരാജ് തന്നെയാണ് ഈ സിനിമയ്ക്ക് തിരക്കഥ രചിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്*റെ ആദ്യ തിരക്കഥയാണിതെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കാനാവില്ല. വിദ്യാരംഭം, കുടുംബസമേതം തുടങ്ങിയ ജയരാജ് ചിത്രങ്ങളേപ്പോലെ ഹൃദയസ്പര്*ശിയാണ് ലൌഡ് സ്പീക്കറും. ലൈവ് സൌണ്ട് റെക്കോര്*ഡിംഗിന്*റെ മേന്**മ തിയേറ്ററില്* ആസ്വദിച്ചറിയാം.

മലയാളികള്*ക്ക് കുടുംബസമേതം കണ്ടിരിക്കാവുന്ന ഒരു മികച്ച ചിത്രമാണ് ലൌഡ് സ്പീക്കര്*. ഏറെക്കാലത്തിനു ശേഷം മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെ ഒരു ഗംഭീര കഥാപാത്രത്തെയും മലയാളത്തിന് ലഭിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. അണിയറപ്രവര്*ത്തകരുടെ നൂറു ശതമാനം ആത്മാര്*ത്ഥമായ സമീപനം തന്നെയാണ് ഈ ചിത്രത്തെ ഒരു റംസാന്* വിരുന്നാക്കി മാറ്റുന്നത്.
