About CPU

For some reason,
I want to buy a new computer,
the most large problem is that
I don't know which CPU is more effective,

Pentium 4? AMD64?
most of the computers in the would is runing P4,
but my friends suggest me buying a AMD64 PC

could anyone tell me how to choose?

Go for P IV above 3 Ghz this will be the best choice in my opinion. I do assemble the Pc's so I suggest for it only.

If u want to go for AMD 64 Take a good Motherboard recommended by AMD. I think the good motherboard for AMD is not yet available.

AMD 64 is the best processor around. It's a 64 bit processor compared to P4.
While in processing Intel's p4 and AMD 64 are quite closer to each other but
AMD's 64 bit processors are more precise in floating point calculations due to
the 64 bit registers.

I suggest u buy P4.... it is very good for applications and for the newest games.

you talk much about the processor. But if you speak of playing games and running graphics applications, don't forget about which AGP card and memory to get. It's the next thing important to process-memory-video relationship.
