The writing is clearly on the wall. Mammootty and Mohanlal are under tremendous pressure, as producers are no longer willing to shut their eyes and sign them up. Two of Mammootty’s forthcoming projects and a venture of Mohanlal have been put on the backburner.

Though both the actors are hyper sensitive about the matter, the truth is after the performance of their recent films, Pramani and Alexander the Greatat the box-office, the trade has lost faith in them.

Says a Kottayam based distributor: “ They seem to have lost their magic opening, and cannot make a film a hit on their own. Mammookka cannot claim much credit for the success of Pokkiri Raja, as Prithviraj has stolen the thunder. Mohanlal is totally out of form, and needs a solo hit to bounce back.

After Oru Naal Varum, Mohanlal finds himself in a position where his Max Lab has to fund and release his films like Shikar and Kandahar. The shoot of Major Ravi directed Kandahar is getting delayed, but will now kickstart in Ooty by the end of the month.

Meanwhile Mammootty after coming back from US , was to start Jagadish’s Amar Akbar Antony, but now it looks like it has been put in the cold storage. The latest we hear is that he will start ace photographer Martin Prakkat’s new film produced by Naushad and distributed by star’s own distribution company Play House.

M and M are going through the most difficult time in their career. All that they need is one solo hit, to salvage their career. Meanwhile Prithviraj is eating into their constituency and signing up new films left, right and center. By the end of the year, Malayalam cinema may have an all new superstar!
