Mani Ratnam's 'Raavanan' releases to full houses in Tamil Nadu
Raavanan, the trilingual film directed by Mani Ratnam with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as the female lead in all three languages, released across Tamil Nadu today to full houses.
Titled 'Raavan' in Hindi and 'Villain' in Telugu, the film has Tamil star Vikram in both Tamil and Hindi versions. The film has opened to "great" bookings, industry sources told reporters adding that tickets have been sold out for the next one week.
Abhishek Bachchan is the male lead in the Hindi version, his third film with Ratnam after their previous successful project, 'Guru'.
Touted as Ratnam's magnum opus, 'Raavanan' stars some of the biggest stars of South Indian cinema suchas Prithiviraj, national award winner Priya Mani, veteran actors Prabu and Karthick among others.
Oscar winner A R Rahman's tunes for the film have already become chart-busters. Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies has jointly produced the film with Big Pictures. The Tamil version is releasing in more than 200 theatres in the state with 125 prints dispatched overseas. A total of more than 1200 prints were being released in all three versions.
