    Default Hair-care for winter

“Don't rinse your hair with hot water during winter”, is his most important advice. In winter, people tend to wash their hair less regularly than at other times; and most people use hot water to do so. But this is not advisable, he says, as it results in release of extra oil from the oil glands. This sticks to the scalp and results in dandruff.

In addition, severe cold makes not only the skin, but also the hair dry and dull.

    Keep away that irritating dandruff:

Wash and condition your hair at least once a week.

Apply oil and use a steamed towel, but avoid coconut oil which freezes in winter and can stick to the scalp, closing pores and resulting in hair problems.

Mix a teaspoon of coconut oil, a teaspoon of lemon juice and Fuller's earth (Multani mitti) and apply the paste on your hair. Keep it for an hour and then wash hair; this helps to get rid of dandruff.

Avoid washing hair with hot water in winter.

Conditioning of hair is required more in winter than summer, as during winter there is more moisture in the hair and conditioning helps to retain this moisture as well as keeps the hair shiny. Henna can be used for conditioning, but mix it with a teaspoon of oil.

Mix olive oil with a few drops of ginger juice, apply it to the roots of hair, keep it for an hour and then wash with shampoo or Shikakai and methi seeds.

Apply Bhringraj oil (comprising Ayurvedic herbs) on the hair, keep it overnight and wash hair the next morning to prevent dandruff formation.

Before washing hair, comb it with a brush to remove dead cells or dandruff. This also activates the oil glands.

Add two tablespoons of thyme to two cups of water, boil for ten minutes, filter, and cool the mixture and massage it gently on the scalp. Avoid rinsing the hair as thyme has antiseptic properties which help to prevent dandruff.

Don't comb or brush your hair too often as this activates the oil glands and the extra oil released can cause dandruff.
