Buying a large appliance like a refrigerator can be stressful, but it is not as hard as all of the experts would have you believe. If you have a large amount of frozen goods and you constantly have to get into the freezer, than the split level with the freezer on top would probably work better for you. If, however, you don’t like to bend down every time you want to get into the crisper bin for your fruits and vegetables, then a unit that has the refrigerator on top may be the more ideal thing for you.

There is also the problem of color selection. Fridges come in a wide variety of colors and styles and some can even be custom ordered to your preference. The most common color schemes are beige, black, white, and stainless steel. You have to know what will look best in your kitchen. The kind of refrigerator that you like the best may clash horribly with your design in your kitchen, and that is just something to keep in mind when making your purchasing decision.


The second part of the refrigerator equation is knowing exactly what size fridge you need. Too many times people go out and just pick a fridge that they like or they think is pretty and then they get it home only to find that it won’t fit into the built-in refrigerator niche. Take down the measurements of your current fridge, everything from height, width, and depth. Write these down and take them with you when you go to the store. Most of the larger department or chain stores that sell fridges will have an associate on hand that can help you know which fridge will work best to fit in the space that you have.


Once you know these two things, purchasing a refrigerator should be relatively simple. Just remember to shop around to get the best bargains. Most stores will price match, so if you find something you like in one store, but you want to purchase it at another because of credit or delivery reasons, just take the advertisement with you and show it to the salesperson. If they have that brand and style in stock, chances are they will agree to price match the ad so that you buy the appliance at their store.
