Volkswagen Passat

Volkswagen Passat was the first car launched by VW in India under its own name and now they have gone ahead and revamped it. Passat is actually one of the first models born from VW's acquisition of Audi in 1964. The first Passat came out in the year 1973. It was Passat which launched VW as a definitive luxury brand in India and started a market trend which saw them bolstering up high sales in India powered by a line up of new age cars including Jetta and Polo. There was a reason why Passat has been successful all over the world and has had various iterations and multiple spin offs. Let's investigate the Passat a bit more.

Engine
The all new Volkswagen Passat is powered by 2.0L CR TDI diesel engine, which is capable of delivering maximum power of 170 at 4200 rpm PS and peak torque of 350 Nm at 1750-2500 rpm. The engine is designed to offer abundant torque, impressive power output, with good fuel efficiency.

Design And Comfort

Passat has passed through many design changes through the years and the new version available in India looks stunningly good. The chrome plated restyled radiator grille gives an elegant refinement to the front design of Volkswagen Passat. The rear is adorned by attractive LED tail lights, which are intensely luminous, long lasting and consume less power. The strong and prominent C-pillar of Volkswagen Passat gives it a majestic look to the rear design of the car. Foldable rear view mirrors, Barcelona alloy wheels and stylish bi-Xenon headlamps add to the glamour of the sedan. Climate seats of the car provide active ventilation and massage function for the driver and the front seat passenger.

Interiors

Passat is what we call the luxury. The seats are large and comfortable with adequate leg room and shoulder room. But the Passat is more a comfortable 4 seater than a five seater; this is due to the small bump like arrangement in the back seat. Tilt-and-slide electric sunblind and tilting electric glass sunroof would delight people riding in it. The car's unique 2-zone electronic climate control is something very rare in luxury sedans. It allows the driver and the front seat passenger to adjust their preferences individually. For full-on entertainment, the central console is bedecked with RCD 510 Premium Multimedia System. The climatic control is also top class. The most intimidating feature of the interiors is the fact that you feel completely cut off from all the noise and commotion outside and its feels good.

Ride And Handling
Volkswagen Passat's innovative Bluemotion Technologies have made the sedan an efficient and eco-friendly approach to mobility on heavy traffic. Its unique Auto Start-Stop system automatically turns off the engine, when it is idle or when you are slowing down to a halt at traffic signal. This saves a lot of precious fuel. For increased energy efficiency, the car comes with optimized gear ratios. The innovative Brake Energy Recuperation system of the automobile recharges its battery with the mere act of braking. The suspension is wonderfully well tuned to Indian terrain. The power assisted rack and pinion steering is quick and responsive. There is a bit of turbo-lag, almost negligible, but once past 2000rpm the motor pulls strong. The transmission is also lighter and precise. The ride quality is definitely best in class and the feel is plush. Handling is smooth and very easy.

Safety

Luxury and safety go hand in hand, in the all new Volkswagen Passat. Airbags are standard equipments for safety of the passengers. The airbags get deployed automatically during accidents, to reduce impact from collisions and hence, safeguard the passengers. Passat has acquired the highest rating of five-stars by the NCAP in Europe for occupant protection during crash testing and this has been carried into the Indian production model too. The safety features include 8 airbags, ABS, Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP) and Electronic Immobilizer. These are aided by state of the art equipment including Parking sensors (front and rear) and anti-theft sensors. Fog Lamps are included as well.

Variants, Price And Color

‘Trendline’, ‘Comfortline’ and ‘Highline’ are the three variants of the new Volkswagen Passat. Trendline is priced at Rs 20,80,000, while Passat Comfortline and Passat Highline are worth Rs 23,80,000 and Rs 25,65,000, respectively. The new Passat is available in five dazzling colors, which include white, pearl, black, silver and brown.
