Default 5 Tips on Choosing a Domain Name

Your domain name is like the sign on the front of a building. It tells people what your business is and how you can help. Choosing the right domain name is essential when it comes to your online presence as the wrong domain name can spell trouble for traffic to your site. These five tips will help ensure you get people to come to your site – and to return to your site again.

    1. Make Your Domain Name Short

Your domain name should be as short as it can be. When you think about the sites you visit most regularly, you will see that you generally don’t type too many letters into the browser. Try to find the shortest and most succinct way of showing others what your business has to offer. This is the ideal domain name.

    2. Make Your Domain Name Simple

When a person wants to head to your website, they shouldn’t have to think too hard about what that site is. Making your domain name as simple as possible will ensure that it is easy to remember. For example, remembering that apple.com is the domain name for Apple is simple. If the company chose , that isn’t as easy to remember – or to type into a browser.

    3. Can Use Your Name as the Domain Name

If you’re the sole proprietor of your business, it’s a good idea to choose your name as the domain name. This will allow you to keep your name as the focal point of your interactions with customers. While you might also choose a company name as website address, having a domain name that is your name is the easiest way to make sure your customers can find you.

    4. Use Dot Com Address for Domain Name

When it comes to choosing from the many different domain name extensions, the best choice is to use a dot-com address. It’s because people are now so accustomed to typing in web addresses with this at the end, you’re more likely to get traffic when your site includes this suffix. While you might also want to buy up the other domain name options (.net, .mobi, etc.), having the dot-com is the best possible choice. Once your site grows well you can buy other extensions for the same domain name and you can redirect it your main domain.

    5. Use Top Keywords in Your Domain Name

If you can, use a top keyword in your domain name choice. This will make it easier for people to find your site within the search engine listings and it will draw more traffic to your site. When you draw more traffic to your site, you increase your ranking, which creates a highly positive flow of traffic to your site.

When choosing a domain name, you want to choose something that is short, sweet, and to the point. People don’t want to think too hard about where they need to find you online. Make it easy on them to connect with you and your website will be the one everyone talks about – and the one everyone finds.

One thing you need to take care is that its is better if your domain name does not consist of dashes. Domain name with dashes looks blog as spam and it may influence your visitors in negative way. So it is better if you avoid dashes "-" while choosing a domain.

Thanks for the valuable information...I chose my domain name based on your tips from Thewebpole.com and chose my domain provider based on user reviews and have no regrets.

A short name is not necessarily a good thing. Sometimes, EMD works better
