The LBS Centre for Science and Technology has invited applications for the State Eligibility Test (SET 2011) to be held on September 25 at all district headquarters in Kerala. SET is the qualifying examination for selection of higher secondary teachers and non-vocational teachers in VHSE. There will be two papers for the SET 2011. Paper I is common for all and it consists of two parts viz. general knowledge and aptitude in teaching. Paper II will be a test on the subject of specialisation at the Master's degree level. There are 35 subjects included for the test viz. anthropology, Arabic, botany, chemistry, commerce, economics, English, French, Gandhian studies, geography, geology, German, Hindi, history, home science, Islamic history, journalism, Kannada, Latin, Malayalam, mathematics, music, philosophy, physics, political sciences, psychology, Russian, Sanskrit, social work, sociology, statistics, Syriac, Tamil, Urdu and zoology. The duration of the test will be 120 minutes for each paper.

There will be 120 questions for paper I and 120 questions for paper II and each questions carrying one mark each. However for mathematics/ statistics there shall be only 80 questions carrying 1.5 marks each.

The questions of both the papers shall be objective multiple-choice in nature and based on single response. For every incorrect answer, one-fourth marks will be deducted from the total marks scored, in the paper valuation. To pass in the SET, a candidate must score at least 35 per cent marks in paper I and paper II separately and 50 per cent marks in aggregate.

Eligibility: Students who have passed Master's degree in subjects concerned with at least 50 per cent marks and have a B.Ed. degree in any discipline can apply. Candidates with Master's degree in anthropology, commerce, French, Gandhian studies, geology, German, home science, journalism, Latin, music, philosophy, psychology, Russian, social work, sociology, statistics and Syriac need not have B.Ed. degree to apply.

Master's degree holders in communicative English with at least 50 per cent marks and a B.Ed. degree are eligible to appear for SET in English subject.

For mathematics, physics, chemistry, botany and zoology, candidates with at least a second class M.Sc.Ed. degrees in the concerned subject from Regional Institute of Education are eligible.

For botany, and zoology, candidates with M.Sc.Ed. degree in life science with at least 50 per cent are eligible to apply.

Candidates who acquired their qualification through correspondence course/ open universities which are not recognized by any one of the universities in Kerala are not eligible to appear for the test. Candidates who have acquired their qualification through correspondence course or universities from outside Kerala should produce equivalency certificate from any one of the universities in Kerala.

Candidates appearing in final year of their postgraduate course will also be permitted to appear for the test if they already have a B.Ed. degree. There is no upper age-limit prescribed for the test.

How to apply

Application form and prospectus can be obtained from select head post offices in the State by remitting a fee of Rs.500. Application forms and prospectus are being distributed from GPO, Statue (Pulimoodu), Thiruvananthapuram; head post offices at Attingal, Neyyattinkara, Thycaud, Karunagappally, Kollam, Kottarakkara, Adoor, Pathamthitta, Punalur, Tiruvalla, Chengannur, Cherthala, Kayamkulam, Mavelikkara, Changanacherry, Kanjirappally, Kottayam, Pala, Vaikom, Kattappana, Thodupuzha, Aluva, Ernakulam, Kochi, Muvattupuzha, Perumbavur, Chalakkudy, Irinjalakuda, Kunnamkulam, Thrissur, Vadakkancherry, Alathur, Olavakkode, Ottappalam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Manjeri, Ponnani, Tirur, Calicut, Quilandy, Vadakara, Kalpetta, Kannur, Taliparamba, Thalassery, Kanhangad, Kasaragod.

Candidates residing outside Kerala should send a requisition letter to get application form and prospectus by post along with a demand draft for Rs.550 drawn in favour of the Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology, payable at Thiruvananthapuram and a self-addressed envelope. The request should reach the Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram-33 on or before August 8.

Each application form will have an application number and security key. By using these numbers, the candidates should register online through the web site LBS Centre for Science & Technology. On successful completion of online registration, a registration ID will be provided to each applicant. After the online registration the application obtained along with the prospectus should be duly filled and affixed with the recent passport size photograph and sent to the Director of LBS Centre
