Default New agreement fixes Rs 4.5 lakh as MBBS fee

The new agreement signed between the Kerala Private Medical College Management Association (KPMCMA) and the State Government this evening for admission to 10 medical colleges under the Association stipulates admission to 20 seats (in a college having 100 seats) from the BPL category at a fee of Rs 25,000 while 65 seats will have a flat fee of Rs 4.5 lakh. The remaining 15 seats will belong to NRI quota.
Of the 65 seats having a flat fee of Rs 4.5 lakh (in a college having 100 seats), 35 seats belong to Management quota. These seats come with an additional Rs 5 lakh refundable interest-free deposit component and bank guarantee, according to an Association office-bearer. However it is not clear as to what amount the bank guarantee is this year. Last year it was Rs 22 lakh and it is fixed calculating the four-year fee @ Rs 5.5 lakh, the last year fee. This year since the fee has been reduced to Rs 4.5 lakh, the bank guarantee will come to Rs 18 lakh, but the students and parents have to insist on this and get it implemented by the managements.

The 30 government quota seats in a college having 100 seats too will have Rs 4.5 lakh fee. With these seats there are no other frills attached. But the details will be clear once the Government Order validating the agreement comes out. Two Private medical colleges have 150 MBBS seats; they are Gokulam Medical College and Malabar Medical College. The CSI Medical College, Karakkonam, has come out of the Association. Effectively there are 10 Medical Colleges in the Association now.
