Teachers in Kuwait schools are being encouraged by the government to use latest technology, including social networking websites like Twitter and Facebook, to communicate better with students.

The education ministry has proposed the use of technology in communicating with students, such as creating their own e-mail address, writing their own blogs, or having Facebook or Twitter accounts, the Gulf News reported.

"The teacher should be able to use technology to communicate with students, parents and the society. We are working on introducing technology in education," Muna Al Lughani, a top official at ministry of education, was quoted as saying.

The proposal, however, needs the approval of parliament before it is implemented. The measure is scheduled to be applied on nearly 37,000 teachers in public schools, which cater to 350,000 students. However, critics have doubted the proposed system.

"There are teachers who are against the idea totally. People say there are employees at the ministry of education itself who are not familiar with the internet,"
