New Bond film shifting from India to South Africa?

Production of the latest Bond movie is due to begin this autumn and Daniel Craig is supposed to jet out to the set in India with other stars soon.

The producers of the 23rd James Bond movie have threatened to shift the filming from India to South Africa if permission to shoot a show-stopping train stunt is refused.

Take One Productions, which is responsible for the location shoot in India, said the movie bosses want to block off sections of a railroad for a go-getting sequence, which will feature Daniel Craig and his stunt double.

A production insider said: “It has been one thing after another. The scenes are very ambitious and we’re all just desperate to get started but there have been obstacles at every stage.” Indian Railways Minister Dinesh Trivedi has also pledged to “look into the matter”.

Production of the latest Bond movie, known by the working title Bond 23, was due to begin this autumn and Daniel Craig was supposed to jet out to the set in India with other stars soon.

But a wrangle with authorities there over permission to film Craig in high-speed railway stunts has left director Sam Mendes hunting alternative locations, according to Daily Mirror.

Filming could be moved to South Africa, where producers have already have permission to shoot some scenes, but this may not be until January.

“South African authorities are waiting to provide everything that is required to support this movie,” the Daily Star quoted Take One’s Pravesh Sahni as saying.

“If we can’t get this co-operation from India, the film will no longer be shot here,” he added.

Studio executives had confirmed a release date of October 26 next year for the film, which will to star Dame Judi Dench again as MI6 chief M, plus Ralph Fiennes and Spanish actor Javier Bardem.
