A benchmark index for Indian equities markets Tuesday built on its previous session's gains and was ruling over 212 points higher minutes after opening bell.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the BSE, which opened at 16,585.1 points was ruling 16,628.58 points, up 212.25 points or 1.29 percent from its previous close at 16,416.33 points.

The Sensex had rallied 567 points Monday.

The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was also trading higher, 1.28 percent up at 4,982.55 points.

Broader markets were also ruling in the green. The BSE midcap index was ruling 1.5 percent higher, while the BSE small cap index rose 1.55 percent.
