The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex opened over 46 points higher today on sustained buying by funds amid a firming Asian trend. The 30-share BSE index, which has gained 452.21 points over the past three sessions, added another 46.26 points, or 0.26 per cent, to 17,211.80 in the first five minutes of trade on Friday.
In a similar fashion, the wide-based National Stock Exchange Nifty Index moved up by 10.50 points, or 0.20 per cent, to 5,163.75.
The FMCG, consumer durables, health care and auto sectors led the gains.
Brokers said the market sentiment remained firm on heavy buying by foreign funds in the Asian region.
