Freida Pinto promotes TRISHNA at IFFI 2011
International superstar Freida Pinto, dressed in a cream and pink churidar-kurta, graced the red carpet of the 42nd International Film Festival of India. The actress best known for her role of Latika in Danny Boyle's SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE was joined in by the cast and crew of TRISHNA, a special screening of which was held at IFFI 2011
British filmmaker Michael Winterbottom, Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and actress wife Kalki Koechlin also made a graceful entry along with Freida, who plays the title role of TRISHNA in this British drama. Actor Riz Ahmed plays the role of a wealthy young British businessman Jay Singh in this adaptation of Thomas Hardy's novel 'Tess of the d'Urbervilles'. Set in Rajasthan, TRISHNA charts the life of a village girl Trishna (Pinto) who falls in love with a rich man but the class divide becomes too big for the lovers to overcome.
On the Red Carpet Freida Pinto said, "I am really happy to be a part of the International Film Festival of India and it is a great experience to represent my film TRISHNA here. Goa has always been close to my heart and screening the film at this international platform is a great honour for us."
Michael Winterbottom, director of TRISHNA, said, "The story being of a woman whose life is destroyed by a combination of love and circumstances, I think Freida was the perfect choice for the protagonist and she played her role to the fullest in the movie. The experience of being at IFFI is an honour in itself and I look forward to come here again."
