Joseph Dias, General Secretary, Christian Secular Forum has said that “Hosanna is a prayer in the Bible and used by both Jews and Christians, referring to God or Jesus Christ, with strong reverential and religious connotations. So to make a song and dance out of it where a guy is professing his love to the girl by using this term is utterly unacceptable.”

Gautham Menon’s Hindi version of Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaya, Ek Deewana Tha features a song that begins with the lyrics Hosanna. This has created a huge controversy as the CSF has said that the term is used only in hymns and its usage in films is obejectionable.

Interestingly, the Tamil version also began with the lyrics Hosanna but no objection was raised at that time.
