spyware is a real menace these days, and its so damn hard to get off, but (here's the catch), another threat lies in the programs you use to delete the spyware.
some spyware leave "traces" of their existance in registry keys which some spyware programs delete, regarding the key as part of the spyware program itself - some "clean" the key, which is much safer, but you must be careful because if a valuable registry key is deleted, your system could become unbalanced.
be careful with what you use, its happened to me before!
i recommend webroot's sky sweeper, free download and trial for 30 days! great!
i like 2 use ad aware and spybot search and destroy alot
My computer once got struck by a form of spyware called "Bonzo Buddy", which can cause some very dreadful problems with the hard disk. The detection programs I recommend for overcoming such things include Ad-Aware and Winpatrol.
www.symantec.com may also have some helpful information on how to deal with spyware.
Hi all,
I am a newbie here, but I am pretty much aware of the problems with spyware/malware/trojans/hijackers. I use several killer programs:
1. Spybot S&D with Tea-timer and Hosts file changes blocked.
2. An ad-blocking hosts file
3. Ad-aware SE Personal
4. HijackThis
5. CWShredder
6. ZA Pro
7. Norton Antivirus 2004
Most importantly, I use Mozilla Firefox as my browser and use IE only to check windows update site. I runn all the programs from 1-5 and 7 every week after updating them. Recently I read a newsletter from spywareinfo.com (http://www.spywareinfo.com/newslette...ves/1104/4.php)
I think it is a must read for all and tells us how a spyware remover product company can form a liaison with an adware company and remove its products from the adware list!! Whom do we trust then? I guess, I have to rely on free products such as Spybot, with the most remarkable provision of Tea-Timer.
CHeers![/b]
I'm using also adaware en spybot. I've read in several magazine that spybot the best anti-spyware program is (en surely not adaware!)
i use ads-ware 6.0 its gd!
I use Adware and Spybot Search and Destroy. THey do the job for me!
I have a bit of experience in this area. I did some work experience in a computer repair center and almost every tenth had spyware problems. I picked up a few common knoledge points. You proably allready know these.
1. If you have anything other than dial up HAVE A FIREWALL other than zone alarm (basic) since it is practically open sorce.
2. Backup inportant info.
3. Have norton or a similar programme ready.
4. Use a combination of the programmes mentioned above and KEEP THEM UPDATED also use online AV tools.
5. Dont use file swoppers. They get loads of these in.
6. If worst comes to worst, start from scratch. In extreme cases what i do is wipe my hard drive and start from scratch.
7. Dont download unessary things such as toolbars unless you are 100% sure they are legit
Sorry for telling you what you allready know,
SMM
A while back I had this nasty adware installed on my computer.
Every 3rd or 4th time I opened a new webpage, and advert popped up in another window. This wasnt anything to do with the webpage itself.
Some of these adverts were pornographic, so as you can imagine, it was very annoying.
Anyway, I tried the latest version of Spybot and Spysweeper to no avail.
Then I tried the latest version of Ad Aware.... and it found 180 problems..... thats 180 that the other software had missed!
Look no further that Ad Aware!
