Default Tips for Traveling With Kids

    1. Plan Your Bookings

When planning to travel with kids, make sure you fix on every step of your holiday keeping them in mind. And this usually starts with the bookings. Book flight tickets wisely to get the front-most seats, so that you have enough legroom and area for your kids to move around, and also for you to keep all your bags with baby or kids’ essentials. Some airlines also arrange for strollers inside the plane or tables and chairs for kids to sit on. Try and reach well before the check-in time, so that you can tell the staff well in advance that you have kids with you, and can ask for any special arrangements, if needed. Similarly, for hotel bookings, always enquire if the hotel is children-friendly, and has facilities like a play area for children. If you feel like spending some time alone with your spouse during the holiday, then also check for baby-sitting services in the hotel. The hotel should also have child-friendly menus with enough entertainment options to keep your kids occupied.

    2. Carry All Essentials

Kids can become cranky at the smallest instance. Don’t give them this kind of an opportunity at least when it comes to food. They will probably not want to try out cuisines of different locations on a holiday like you would want to. So carry their favorite foods, and other such important items with you. In case of infants, carry your brand of baby food, so that you don’t have to look for it during your holiday. Airlines allow baby foods to be taken inside the plane, unlike other food items, so inform them well in advance about the same to save hassles during checking. For younger kids, make sure you also carry a couple of their favorite toys and a couple of books to keep them occupied and entertained anytime they feel out of place or homesick.

    3. Keep Taking Breaks

During sightseeing, keep taking breaks after every visit to a place, so that the kids have enough to unwind and relax. Feed them well during this time, and possibly let them have a nap before you continue with your sightseeing. Always remember that with kids, you need to be a little slow.

    4. Give Them Reasons To Enjoy

You would love going to architecturally and historically beautiful places. But chances are that your kids will get bored there. So make sure that you include some kid-friendly sightseeing places too in your itinerary, and take them to amusement parks, gaming parlors, interesting places to shop, boat rides etc., which will keep their interest alive during the holiday. The more they enjoy and are involved in your travel plans, the less cranky they will get.

Ensure that your trip is not too long, because kids tend to get irritated after a while, if the trip is stretched too much, and feel like going back home. Of course, if your location itself is very kid-friendly, such as Disneyland, then there is a chance that they just wouldn’t want the holiday to end! But do remember that kids can become moody on long vacations, and this is definitely not good, lest you cancel the other half of your trip at the last minute.

Our recent trip was to Kaziranga National Park. It was an amazing trip, but the mosquitoes troubled us alot.

If you are going abroad or to national parks like Gym Corbett, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh it becomes very important to take the vaccine against dengue and malaria, as the onset of mosquitoes and insects would be out of control.

Always carry child mosquito repellent gel, creams, patches and hand bands that will protect them and you when you are going for a ride in the jungle.
