The LBS Centre for Science and Technology has invited applications for admission to the B.Ed. course in government, aided and self-financing colleges, excluding centres directly managed by the universities, in the State.

The colleges offer merit and management seats. Admission to the merit seats, which number in excess of 10,000, will from the rank list prepared by the Director of the LBS Centre on the basis of the marks obtained in the qualifying examination. From this year, self-financing colleges will themselves admit students to the merit seats from the rank list.

Weight of 15 marks will be given to those with a first-class postgraduate degree, 10 marks for second class and five marks for third class. Ten marks each will be awarded to those with National Service Scheme and National Cadet Corps certificates at the degree level.

Eligibility

Applicants will have to meet the academic eligibility applicable to the subject and stream as follows:

B.Ed. English: BA in English Language and Literature; Functional English; or Communicative English with 50 per cent marks in Part III; or 50 per cent marks in MA in these disciplines; or BA or B.Sc. with 50 per cent marks in Part I English and 50 per cent marks in MA in English Language and Literature.

Malayalam: BA in Malayalam Language and Literature with 50 per cent marks in Part III; or 50 per cent marks in MA Malayalam Language and Literature; or BA or B.Sc. with 50 per cent marks in Part II Malayalam and not less than 50 per cent marks in MA in Malayalam Language and Literature.

Hindi: BA degree in Hindi Language and Literature with 50 per cent marks in Part III or BA or B.Sc. with 50 per cent of marks in Part II Hindi and 50 per cent marks in the Master’s degree in Hindi Language and Literature.

Arabic: BA in Arabic Language and Literature with 50 per cent marks in Part III or 50 per cent marks in MA Arabic Language and Literature or BA or B.Sc. with 50 per cent marks in Part II Arabic and 50 per cent marks in MA in Arabic Language and Literature.

Tamil: BA in Tamil Language and Literature with 50 per cent marks in Part III or BA or BSc with 50 per cent marks for Part II Tamil and 50 per cent marks in MA in Tamil Language and Literature.

Sanskrit: BA in Sanskrit Language and Literature with 50 per cent marks in Part III or 50 per cent marks in MA Sanskrit Language and Literature or BA or B.Sc. with 50 per cent marks in Part II Sanskrit and 50 per cent marks in MA in Sanskrit Language and Literature.

Urdu: BA in Urdu Language and Literature with 50 per cent marks in Part III or 50 per cent marks in MA Urdu Language and Literature or BA or B.Sc. with 50 per cent marks in Part II Urdu and 50 per cent marks in MA Urdu Language and Literature.

Mathematics: B.Sc. in Mathematics, Statistics or Applied Statistics as main with 50 per cent marks in Part III or 50 per cent marks in M.Sc. in these disciplines. Candidates with Statistics or Applied Statistics should have studied Mathematics as one of the subjects.

Physical Science: B.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Geology, Petrochemicals, Biochemistry or Industrial Chemistry as main with 50 per cent marks in Part III or 50 per cent marks in MSc in these disciplines.

Natural Sciences: B.Sc. in Botany, Zoology or Biochemistry or B.Sc. in Plant Science or Home science with Zoology or Botany as subsidiary; Aquaculture (with biochemistry and zoology as subsidiaries), Biotechnology or Microbiology with 50 per cent marks in Part III or 50 per cent marks in M.Sc. Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Plant Science or Home Science. They should have studied Zoology, Botany or Biochemistry as one of the subjects at the degree level.

Social Science: BA in History, Arabic and Islamic History, Geography, Politics, Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy or West Asian Studies with 50 per cent marks in part III or 50 per cent marks in MA in these subjects.

Geography: Degree in geography with 50 per cent marks in Part III or 50 per cent marks in MA or M.Sc. in geography.

Commerce: M.Com. degree with not less than 50 per cent marks.

Information Technology: MCA or M.Sc. in Computer Science or Electronics with minimum of 50 per cent marks.

Computer Science: MCA or M.Sc. in Computer Science or Electronics with minimum 50 per cent marks.

Applicants who are eligible for admission to more than one B.Ed. course or subject will have to mark those courses in the online applications. There is no upper age limit.

Those belonging to the Socially and Educationally Backward Communities (SEBC) or Other Eligible Communities (OEC) and visually challenged candidates get a relaxation of 5 per cent in the minimum marks required for the qualifying examination. Those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes require the pass mark.

How to apply

There is only a single application form for various courses. The application fee is Rs. 400 (Rs. 200 for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes).

The application fee should be remitted in any branch of Federal Bank in Kerala from July 13 to get the application number and security key essential for submitting applications online on LBS Centre for Science & Technology or LBS Centre for Science & Technology from July 16 to 28. The prospectus, which can be had from the district-level facilitation centres of the LBS Centre on production of the bank receipt, include instructions for online registration. Applicants should login to the website and click the link “Admission to the B.Ed. degree course 2012” and register online by using application number, security key and password. The candidate has to upload photograph and save personal and academic data. On successful completion of the online registration, a ‘registration ID’ will be generated by the website.

Send a printout, along with attested copies of certificates and mark lists and other relevant documents, to the Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Nandavanam, Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram – 695 033 so as to reach there on or before July 31.

The list of colleges and the subjects offered in each institution will be published on the websites.

The centralised allotment process will be through a single-window system based on the options exercised by the candidate.
