Step 1
The first step is to get fed up with stress and anxiety. The person who learns to deal with it is not the person who can avoid it. Dealing with it means absorbing it and telling yourself that it doesn't affect you.
Step 2
Turn off the news! I'm very serious about that. How much bad news do you really need to know? And how much of what they report can you do anything about. News is designed to evoke some sort of strong emotion. When was the last time you read a news article that evoked the emotion of well being and happiness?
Step 3
Every night before you go to sleep list 5 things that you are happy about and grateful for. The list each night must be original. This exercise is designed to reprogram your mind into looking for the good instead of the not so good.
Step 4
Don't worry!! That is an order. Worry is meditating on problems and the only result will be fear. Take an honest look at the situation. Is there something you can do to fix it? If not, spending time thinking about it won't do anyone any good.
Step 5
List all the things you dread doing. Then decide if any of these things can be avoided by not doing them or getting someone else to do them. When you dread doing something you start dreading a week or more before it needs to be done. This means you've wasted a whole week dreading when you could be thinking about something you enjoy.
Step 6
Put your whole family on the "Let's look at the good side of this" path. Unfortunately, human nature tends to look for and expect the worst. Don't forget that you have a choice. If you set an example of this and they all see how much more peaceful and content you are they will catch it from you.
Step 7
Being happy and enjoying everyday is within your control. Sure there are bad things that will happen but you have a choice as to how you will respond. Don't give away your power!
