play .avi file

I am unable to play .avi files with my media player on xp.But it doesnot recognize the format.Similarly I tired to play same file with real palyere.However there also comes message that it needs some additional component to play such file..I have pentium 2 computer with 96 MB Ram. Is it at all possible to play such file in this type of computer?

96 ram is a problem that you have. higher the ram the better.

Anyway use realplayer. I have an older version of realplayer and all they will do is add files and update realplayer so you will not need to pay anything.

Avi's are notoriously played by Realplayer
also RM is very popular in Realplayer.

To play avi files on ur computer, u need to have the codecs required for playing avi files. u can get the codecs as well as a player from www.divx.com. Once u install the codecs, ur wmp will be able to play avi files.
BTW, u have to put this question in General Computer Forum.
