how can i connect to web server ftp?

hi,i registed a new host , how can i connect to webserver fpt for managing file , according to me after i access manage files , i can upload my new site which data be got from ftpserver , don u ?
would u like discribe step by step to have my own site,from edit a site by front page ..... archieve data in ftpserver ...to my friends can see it

i had download software smartFTP yet,but i cant connect to server which show sefault port 22,cause i cant access by user i had in netfreehost,plz show me,thanks KEN so much.!!!!have a good day
