Celebration of the festival : A tall pole is drapped with a piece of bright pleated silk and covered with an upturned metal kalash (made of either copper, steel or silver). A branch of featherly green neem leaves and flowers is entwined artistically around it, along with a garland of gathis (sugar candy).
The day begins wih puja (prayer), after which the 'prasad' is served. This is a unique combination of tender neem leaves and jaggery ground together into a paste and shaped into little pellets. Later special sweets like puran poli or Srikhand are made.
