NEW DELHI: Popular Malayalam cinestar Devan joined the Congress.

He announced the decision after a meeting with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi at her residence here.

The actor said he would work to strengthen the party and propagate patriotism and ethos of Gandhi-Nehru family.

Devan had entered politics about three years ago by floating a regional outfit -- Kerala People's Party -- which remained a non-starter.

He had also unsuccessfully contested the last assembly elections in Kerala and by-election against the then Congress Minister K Muraleedharan in 2004.
