A full-length comedy coupled with sentimental melodrama is what SALPERU RAMANKUTTY is all about. Jayaram plays the role of Ramankutty who is a do-gooder in the film. He is liked by all. By profession Ramankutty is a headmaster in the village. Though he is younger to many of his colleagues he is given the post of the headmaster because of his nice qualities.
Ramankutty is also a member of a wealthy family and he has four uncles (Janardhanan, Jagathy, Lalu Alex and Raju), who want to marry of their daughters to him. They try their level best to influence him.
They also request Ramankutty’s mother (Kaviyoor Ponnamma) who leaves the decision solely on her son. Sangeetha, one of Ramankuty’s cousins who is back from Mumbai after studies falls in love with Ramankutty. She is Jagathy’s daughter.
When everything is fine, something unwarranted happens. Ramankutty is accused. He gets caught red handed in a prostitute’s house. Actually it is his uncle Jagathy who is having relation with the prostitute (Nirosha). Ramankutty’s wedding with Sangeetha gets cancelled. The rest of the film is about how Ramankutty proves his innocence. The entire sequence is picturised in an uproarious way.
Performancewise all are good. Gayathri Raghuram needs to improve her acting. Its Jayaram’s film all the way. His comedy timing is simply superb.
Though the music of the film is not all that appealing, the editing and cinematography is good. Director duo Anil-Babu have once again done what they are good at. They have been successful in giving a complete entertainer.
