how do i add ppl in groups and what are groups for?

i want to make my forum "privat" and just let my friends in.
should i make all the forums and categories private? then set the permissions to all of them one by one? seems a bit hard.

any advice or mini guide?

if i make someone "user level: administrator" does that mean they do my job? set permissions and stuff...

from the buttom of the page u go to the admin panel from there u can set permissions etc and yes if u set someone to admin has the same privilages as u

i know about that, but i cant see a button saying "add XX to group" or something like that
