Kerala police to chargesheet actor Jayamala
THIRUVANNATHAPURAM: Over four years ago, her startling revelation that she had entered the Lord Aiyyappa temple at Sabarimala had led to a storm of protests. The same controversy is back to haunt Jayamala, noted Kannada heroine of yesteryears again.
The Kerala police have now decided to file a charge sheet against her for hurting religious sentiments.
According to reports, Golden Lotus winning film maker and actress Jayamala, astrologer Unnikrishnan and his assistant Raghupathi would be charged by next week under Section 295 A of IPC for "deliberate and malicious act" intended to outrage religious feeling.
It has brought the focus back on debate over whether the women who have reached menstruation age can enter the Lord Aiyyappa temple.
The ancient tradition forbids them from entering the temple. Jayamala had claimed that she had entered it in 1986.
The outrage among the hardcore Aiyyappa devotees had forced the Communist government in Kerala to initiate a police probe into the whole episode.
The police have reportedly found her guilty of hurting religious sentiments. What is more shocking is that it is the anti - god Communist government in Kerala that has allowed the police to act against her.
It seems in an election year, even the Communists can't afford to offend believers and their ancient beliefs.
