Tamannaah’s not a hit machine

Today is Tamannaah’s birthday. Source understands that the actress will be on the sets of Dhaush’s Hari-directed Venghai in Karaikudi on her special day. Dhanush, who has done the superhit Padikathavan with her, has planned, along with director Hari, a “surprise birthday bash” for Tammu.
Meanwhile, Tamannaah — unaware of Dhanush and Hari’s plans for her special day — had an early morning darshan at the Tirupati temple on Monday. Speaking to Source in Chennai on her way to Madurai enroute Karaikudi, Tamannaah said, “How time flies? It feels like it was just yesterday that I celebrated my last birthday in Mumbai.
This time, my entire family including my maasi, has come especially for the Tirupathi darshan and my birthday that will be celebrated in Karaikudi. It will be business as usual for me as I’ll be shooting on my birthday for Venghai. I guess we’ll all get together in the evening and cut a cake.”
2010 has been an eventful year for Tamannaah, who faced stiff competition from Anushka and several other new girls. However, she managed to retain the ‘numero uno’ position, despite failures like Sura and Thillalangadi, due to the success of the blockbuster Lingusamy musical entertainer Paiyaa. Says she, “My characterisation and Lingusamy sir’s packaging made Paiyaa a memorable hit. Last year, I had Ayan and this year, it was Paiyaa.”
On the rather thanda reception to her Sura and Thillalangadi, Tamannaah says, “I’m not a hit machine. Sometimes, films that you do with a lot of care and look good at the time of signing may not work out for some reason or other. It is all part and parcel of the industry, and I guess we will have to take it in our stride.”
It looks like the actress will have only two Tamil releases in 2011 — Siruthai with Karthi (due for Pongal) and Venghai with Dhanush. Why has she stopped signing films in Tamil? The actress points out, “I’m very busy doing three films in Telugu opposite NTR, Allu Arjun and Nag Chaithanya. After I complete work on those films by June 2011, I will be in a position to give dates for new Tamil films. Let me make it clear — I am listening to new scripts and will definitely sign more Tamil films next year.”
