How to Install and Configure Compiz Fusion in Ubuntu

Compiz is a compositing window manager that uses 3D graphics acceleration via OpenGL. It provides various new graphical effects and features on any desktop environment, including Gnome and KDE. Compiz Fusion is a collection of plugins and a configuration system for the Compiz compositing window manager. It was created from the remerging of Beryl into Compiz.

Compiz truely and honestly redefines user desktop experience and desktop/window management.

Pre-Requisites

In order to make life easy, let us go through a few pre-flight checks to ensure all is well once we enable Compiz/Desktop Effects and start using it.

The Pre-requisites Include

Proper drivers installed for your Intel, ATI or nVidia Graphics card.

If you are using ATI, nVidia Display cards you can install drivers from System > Administration > Hardware Drivers to detect the graphic card and to install associated drivers.

Install CCSM on Ubuntu

After installing graphics card drivers you need to install compiz fusion using the following comamnd

sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager compiz-fusion-plugins-extra compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-plugins emerald

Configure Compiz Fusion

Now you need to enable Visual effects for this go to System > Preferences > Appearance



Once it opens click on Visual Effects select Extra option and click on close
