CHENNAI: The International Cricket Council has reprimanded Ireland captain William Porterfield for his public criticism of an umpire's decision in his team's 44-run World Cup loss to the West Indies.

The ICC on Monday said Porterfield received the official reprimand after pleading guilty to breaching the players' code of conduct relating to "public criticism of, or inappropriate comment in relation to" to a player or match official.

Porterfield criticised the lbw decision against Ireland batsman Gary Wilson in the match against the West Indies at Mohali last Friday.

ICC match referee Roshan Mahanama said it wasn't unusual for a captain "to feel aggrieved" but it didn't give him the right to publicly criticise the umpire.
