Default Kate to wed William in 1000-year-old church

London: Westminster Abbey, where Prince William will marry Kate Middleton Friday, has a 1,000-year-old history and is the final resting place of 17 monarchs.

Benedictine monks first arrived at the site in the middle of the tenth century and started a tradition of daily worship that continues to this day, according to westminster-abbey.org.

It has been the coronation church since 1066 and is the final resting place of 17 monarchs.

The construction of the present church was begun by Henry III in 1245.

It is a treasure trove of paintings, stained glass, textiles and other artefacts.

Kate is my rock, says Prince William

Prince William has declared that his new wife Kate is 'his rock'' in a speech to guests during the intimate evening reception after the wedding.

Behind closed doors William, now the Duke of Cambridge, dropped his guard among 300 close friends and family to reveal the true debt he owes to Kate, reports the Herald Sun.

His words reflected how she provides him with the security and normality that he has always craved, according to The ( London) Sunday Times.

After the wedding confirmed Kate as a star set to transform and revive the monarchy, the couple spent the night in the Belgian suite at Buckingham Palace, usually reserved for visiting heads of state.

On Saturday, they left the palace in a helicopter piloted by William's colleagues from RAF Valley, where he is stationed on Anglesey.

Will-Kate fly out, honeymoon destination a secret

The royal newly weds - Prince William and Kate Middleton - flew out of Buckingham Palace Saturday morning for a secret honeymoon destination after their grand wedding that was watched by two billion TV viewers.

Prince William, a search and rescue pilot, has taken a two-week leave so that he can take his bride on a honeymoon.

William married Kate at Westminster Abbey Friday. They will now be known as Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Daily Mail said that their destination is a secret, with the Caribbean, Australia, Kenya and Jordan being some of the exotic destinations where the royal couple could go.

Bookmakers had Saturday morning made Kenya the 3-1 joint favourite.

Prince William is known to like Africa and they could go to Kenya, where he proposed to her last year.

It is also possible that William may take Kate for a break in Scotland.

Since William has to join back duty in two weeks, the significant jetlag likely from a far-flung trip could rule out some destinations.

Prince William's parents, Prince Charles and late Diana who were married 30 years ago, had spent the initial part of their honeymoon in Romsey in Hampshire.

They then spent time on board the royal yacht Britannia. They boarded at the Rock of Gibraltar before cruising to Algeria, Tunisia, Sicily, the Greek islands and Egypt. Their holiday was wrapped up by spending time in Scotland.
