KOCHI: The Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) is planning to form a cricket team of actors to participate in the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) Twenty20 cricket tournament.

The decision in this regard was taken at the general body meeting of the association held here on Sunday. AMMA president Innocent said that more details of the team were yet to be finalised.

“It was director Priyadarsan who told us about the cricket teams formed by actors. Tollywood and Bollywood had already set up teams for the tournament. We have also decided to form a team for the next CCL,” Innocent said.

The decision to increase the financial aid given to veteran actors on a monthly basis (kaineettam) was also taken at the meeting. The monthly allowance will be increased to Rs 4,000 from Rs 2,500.

At present, AMMA is giving kaineettam to 60 veteran artistes. This will be increased to 81. The meeting also honoured this year’s state and national award winners. Minister K B Ganesh Kumar, Tamil Nadu MLA Sarathkumar and Padma Award winners – Jayaram and Sukumari – were honoured at the meeting.
