The University Grants Commission (UGC) will hold the National Eligibility Test (NET) for Junior Research Fellowship and Lectureship in 78 arts and humanities subjects, including languages, at 74 university centres across the country on December 24.

In Kerala, the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram; the Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi; and the University of Calicut, Tenhipalam, are the test centres.

The test will be conducted in various subjects, which include economics, political science, philosophy, psychology, sociology, history, anthropology, commerce, education, social work, defence and strategic studies, home science, public administration, population studies, music, management, physical education, labour welfare or human resource management, law, library and information science, mass communication and journalism, performing arts: dance, drama and theatre, museology and conservation archaeology, criminology, women studies, visual arts, social medicine and community health, forensic science, environmental science, computer science and applications, electronic science, human rights and duties, tourism administration and management, Hindi, Malayalam, English, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.

Eligibility

Those who have secured at least 55 per cent marks in the Master's degree examination in the subjects concerned (50 per cent for students belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes and those visually challenged) may apply. Those appearing for the qualifying examination or have appeared and awaiting results may apply.

The upper age limit for the fellowship is 28, relaxed by five years for students belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes, the physically challenged, and women.

There is no upper age limit for applying for lectureship eligibility.

How to apply

Apply online on University Grants Commission - NET or :::Welcome to UGC ::: before October 25. Two copies of the printout of the online application form, a copy each of the attendance slip and admission card, a fee receipt, and attested copies of certificates should be sent to the test centre opted by the candidates so as to reach there on or before October 31.

Application fee for the general category is Rs.450, for those in the other backward caste category, Rs.225; for belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes and those physically challenged, Rs.110. For details, visit :::Welcome to UGC :::

PH.D. IN CDS

The Centre for Development Studies (CDS), Thiruvananthapuram, has invited applications for admission to its full-time residential research programme, affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

The programme, leading to a Ph.D. in economics, will start on January 2.

Those who have passed the M.Phil. course with a high second class and the Master's degree with 55 per cent marks in economics or related disciplines may apply.

Those awaiting the result of the M.Phil. course may also do so.

The applications should submit a study proposal in agriculture and natural resources, gender and development, industry, trade and technology, migration, population and human development, poverty, vulnerability and social security, issues in economics growth and development, and labour and employment.

Based on it, they will be short-listed for a written test and an interview to be held on the CDS campus on December 8 and 9.

Application fee of Rs.200 should be given in the form of a demand draft drawn in favour of the Centre for Development Studies, payable in Thiruvananthapuram.

Applicants belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes and those physically challenged need not pay the fee.

The filled applications with enclosures should reach the academic programme office of the CDS on or before October 31.
