With a new album, Wonderful Crazy in stores featuring "Undeniable" and "Rain,” and her hit song "Something In Me" making its debut on the popular TV show, "South of Nowhere" on the The N Channel, Katelyn Tarver is seeing stars. The 16 year old, Top 10 finalist of FOX TV’s “American Junior” is ready for the world! First stop: Impact210. Next stop: 17 cities around the USA on the Radio Disney Incubator Artist Tour in the spring of 2006.

Impact210: How’d you get into singing?
Katelyn: My family is really musical. My mom sings. My dad plays the guitar. We’ve always sang in church. I didn’t take it seriously until I was on “American Junior” back in 2003. I made the Top 10. It’s like “American Idol” for kids on Fox. I did that in the Summer of 2003. After that, I knew it was what I wanted to do. Now we’re working on performing. I’ve always loved to perform. When I was younger, me and my sister would always put on shows in the living room. I would sing in church and school plays. Being on stage is the coolest feeling. Getting the audience into it and performing is a lot of fun for me.
Impact210: Have you been performing recently?
Katelyn: I did a tour this summer called The Campified Tour. We went around to different camps in the North East and performed.
Impact210: How many siblings do you have?
Katelyn: I have an older brother, younger brother and younger sister. There are four of us. My brother lives in NYC now and goes on auditions for modeling and acting. I sing. My younger sister sings and we both love to perform. My younger brother is 8 so he just hangs out. He’s really crazy. My house is pretty crazy most of the time. We’re all kind of loud.
Impact210: What was it like being from a small town like Greenville, GA and then being on national TV?
Katelyn: It was huge being on a national TV show in LA with Ryan Seacrest as the host. I didn’t expect to make it. “America Junior” was my first audition with anything. To make it that far was crazy. All of a sudden we’re out in LA. Everyone was really excited and supportive.
Impact210: How did it feel when your song “Something In Me” was featured on “South Of Nowhere?”
Katelyn: I like that song because it talks about coming from a small town and going after your dreams and making them come true. And that’s my story. The single, “Wonderful Crazy” written by Scott Krippane, a contemporary Christian writer. It’s a fun song. It talks about how your life is wonderful but crazy at the same time.
Impact210: Do you write your own songs?
Katelyn: I didn’t get a chance to write on this record but I was active in choosing the songs I wanted to sing. I’ve tried to write. It’s just not that easy. I think it could be easier if I had someone to write with.
Impact210: Have you had singing lessons?
Katelyn: I haven’t taken too many singing lessons. Now I’m taking from Jan Smith in Atlanta. On the show we had a voice coach. I would like to have voice lessons to improve. You can always make it better.
Impact210: Who were your influences?
Katelyn: I’ve grown up listening to contemporary Christian music and a lot of people in that market. Jacqui Velasquez, Rachel Lampa, Joy Williams, people like that. That’s all I listened to when I was growing up. When Jessica Simpson came out, she was a Christian singer. I thought that was cool she went into the pop world. I’ve always looked up to people that could really sing. I’ve always loved to sing along with Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey and all of those amazing voices. People with big voices who can really belt it out.
Impact210: Do you want to get into acting?
Katelyn:I did a little bit of acting. I was in an animated Barbie movie this summer. I was Barbie’s movement. And I’ve done a few commercials. But performing and singing is my first love.
Impact210: What do you do in your free time?
Katelyn: I love hanging out with my friends. We have a house on the river and we love to go there and ride jet skis. I just got my license.
Impact210: What keeps you down to earth?
Katelyn: Keeping my close friends and family around me. My family doesn’t treat me special. Keeping people around me that I trust, that I love, that love me.
